“It is dark; the outlines of two figures are seen struggling on a tiled floor. A male hand squeezes tightly the neck of a woman. The woman’s face is in pain, her skin colour changes. No sounds are heard, everything happens in absolute silence.”
On the night of her son’s suicide Helena is present. Noah tells her the horrible truth of his father abuse, Helena refuses to believe him. Her son disappears over the railing of the balcony. From this moment on Helena’s world is turned upside down as her struggle for survival transforms into a hunt for revenge.
The parallel story is that of Aysun, a dreamer. Aysun lives with her father and her son Ilkin. In the high mountains of Macedonia their existence is simple and harsh. Life has a different pace and purpose there, daily survival is what drives them all. Aysun dreams to be reunited with Lucien, the father of her son.
about the film
This is a story of two very different mothers: one that needs to punish in order to be and the other that is forced to accept in order to exist. This is a story of inner rage and violence and one woman’s need to externalize it in order to justify her own existence. The two influence over each other’s lives in the most unexpected ways.
The woman who brushed off her tears tells a story about various kinds of imprisonment that we create for ourselves or are forced into. Helena’s path is precisely traced; and she is unable to change it. Aysun just wants to live. They both aspire to be free.
The story – The woman who brushed off her tears is an internal ride through the emotions of the two protagonists- two very different mothers: one that needs to punish in order to be and the other that is forced to accept in order to exist. This is a story of revenge and internal violence hidden behind a mystical face, the face of a virgin saint that must kill in order to be.
The form is fluid and uninterrupted; the spectators float across the worlds of the two protagonists, dramaturgically and visually the ride is never-ending, it shouldn’t stop at all. The essence of the characters becomes the essence of the film.
The essence - This is a story about various kinds of imprisonment that we create for ourselves or are forced into. Helena’s path is precisely traced, and she is unable to change it. Ajsun just wants to live. They both aspire to be free.
