THE LONG VACATION focuses on three heartbreaking stories of people who were erased from Slovenia's civil register in 1992, due to a controversial law put in place a year after the country declared its independence. At age 13, Aleksandar returned home from vacation in Serbia to find that he was no longer recognized as a citizen. It took 20 years before he could enter the country again. Katrina was a college student at the time, losing her apartment, legal papers, and even her parents during the ordeal. Bosnian-born Nisveta struggled for her daughter who, for the first two years of her life, was seen as nonexistent by her country.
